My my My my
Anthony J. De Felice Scholarship Program
by posted 01/06/2020

Hello SLL community:

Happy New Year! We hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to warmer weather very soon! As families revert to more normal schedules, we wanted to reach out and remind everyone that the season is right around the corner. As the season approaches, the SLL Board is increasing its efforts to be prepared for Opening Day. We are excited to announce that this year’s Opening Day will take place on Saturday, April 4th beginning with our annual parade. The Board has already reached out to a number of dignitaries who will be marching with our players and saying a few words to all of us down at the fields. As I stated in the last sentence, the players will be marching through downtown Suffern to our SLL fields. This is one of the places where all of you can help out. The Board needs players to be registered to move forward with its plans for the season. Without registered players, we will NOT be able to conduct drafts to form teams. This means that practices will not be able to commence and we will be at a standstill until more registrations are received by the Board. I know that there have been numerous communications about the registration deadline. Please note that we are trying our best to proceed but we need your help! We have also stated to all of you that we are offering payment plans and also a pay later option. In turn, the SLL Board is doing its best to plan a number of changes to make little league great again but we need all of you to do your part which means to register. Please realize that this impassioned plea stems from a desire to have baseball played by happy, smiling children.

Suffern Little League is incredibly excited to announce that the Ray and Melinda De Felice have set up a scholarship fund in memory of their late son, Anthony J. De Felice. These scholarships will be awarded to those families that are in need of  financial assistance to afford all or part of the registration fees for their children. The De Felice family wants to encourage all players that wish to participate in the league to do so, regardless of financial position. The outline of the program is as follows: A family can apply for financial assistance by contacting me, Scott Kaplan at skaplan905@aol.com. You will be asked that you supply sufficient documentation to support the need to be in the scholarship program.  Most common documentation used is copies of the school system assistance that you might be receiving. Partial and full assistance will be considered.  Attached to this email is a letter from the De Felice family containing their thoughts about the scholarship along with the application. SLL is very proud to have such caring members of its community who would like to help those in need. Once again, this exemplifies that the SLL community truly exhibits the the mission of Little League which is to “promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Baseball and Softball.” Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists children in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball and Softball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes.

In closing, Suffern Little League aspires to be a premier Little League, and one of the best in New York. Suffern Little League, through volunteer commitment and community spirit, will provide and perpetuate a quality recreational environment for the youth and the families of our community. With all of that said, we need your help ...please register ASAP.
